Kate Middleton as ancient Greek Goddess

It looks like we are experiencing a return to ancient ideals. To be more specific, the fashion industry seeks inspiration in ancient Greece. One of the examples I recently saw on the internet is this evening dress worn by Kate Middleton, who (of course) sets the trends this Season. The designer is Jenny Packham.

I have to question whether this preference has anything to do with the current crisis. Do they attempt to remind us that Greece saw better days? Do they plan to advertise the new cheaper Greece as the obvious tourist destination? Or does the palace try to support the fight of Greek people against banks and other global financial organisations? There is no better way to battle against austerity than an expensive party (for charity of course) and a luxurious gown.
